How to Prepare for a Reiki Session

How to Prepare for a Reiki Session

Reiki doesn’t require much preparation. More than anything, we encourage you to arrive as you are, with a little space to slow down, settle in, and receive.

Whether this is your first Reiki session or part of an ongoing practice, a few simple steps can help you feel more comfortable and present before, during, and after your session.

Before Your Session

Wear something comfortable

You’ll remain fully clothed throughout your Reiki session, so choose clothing you can easily relax in. Soft, comfortable layers are ideal, especially since you’ll be resting for much of the session.

There’s no need to dress a certain way. The goal is simply to wear something that allows you to feel at ease without needing to adjust or think about your clothing.

Stay hydrated

Drink plenty of water before your appointment and continue hydrating afterward. Think of it as one simple way to support yourself as you move through a slower, more restorative part of your day.

Give yourself time to arrive

Whenever possible, avoid rushing straight into your session. Give yourself a few extra minutes for the drive, parking, and transition into the space.

Even a short pause before beginning can help you shift out of the pace of your day and into a quieter state.

Come with an intention...or don’t

You don’t need to arrive with a particular goal for your Reiki session.

Some people find it helpful to reflect beforehand on what they’ve been feeling, what feels especially present in their life, or what they would like more of: rest, clarity, grounding, connection, or simply a little space.

If something comes to mind, you’re welcome to share it with your practitioner. If not, you can simply come as you are and allow the experience to unfold without expectation.

What to Expect During Reiki

Every Reiki session is a little different.

For an in-person session, you’ll rest comfortably while your practitioner works with gentle, intentional hand placement. At Keepers Collective, our in-studio Reiki sessions may also incorporate elements such as sound, biofield tuning forks, bee aerosols, and the natural atmosphere of our Snoqualmie apiary.

Some guests feel deeply relaxed during their session. Others notice warmth, tingling, emotion, quietness, sleepiness, or very little at all.

There is no “right” way to experience Reiki, and you don’t need to concentrate or make anything happen.

Your only job is to receive.

After Your Session

If your schedule allows, try to leave a little breathing room afterward rather than immediately moving into the busiest part of your day.

You may want to take a walk, journal, have a quiet meal, rest, spend time outside, or simply notice how you feel.

Continue drinking water and pay attention to what your body is asking for. Some people feel energized after Reiki, while others feel especially calm or ready for rest.

There’s no particular way you’re supposed to feel.

You Can Always Ask Questions

Reiki can feel unfamiliar if you’ve never experienced it before, and curiosity is welcome.

Before your session begins, your practitioner can walk you through what to expect, answer questions, and discuss any preferences you have around touch, comfort, or the structure of your session.

Our intention is to create an experience where you feel comfortable, supported, and able to fully settle in.

Preparing Can Be Simple

You don’t need a special ritual before Reiki.

Wear something comfortable. Drink water. Give yourself enough time to arrive without rushing. Come with an intention if one feels meaningful and leave room afterward to move gently back into your day.

Most importantly, come exactly as you are.

Reiki is a complementary wellness practice and is not a substitute for medical or mental health care.
