How to Prepare for a Distance Reiki Session at Home

How to Prepare for a Distance Reiki Session at Home

Preparing for a distance Reiki session at home takes only a few small things: a quiet space where you will not be interrupted, somewhere comfortable to lie down, and a willingness to rest and receive. The more settled your environment, the more deeply the session can land. Here is how to set up so that when we begin, all you have to do is close your eyes.

Set up your space

Choose a quiet room where you will not be interrupted for the full 60 minutes, and let anyone in your home know you are unavailable. Prepare your resting place: a yoga mat, couch, or bed with a blanket and pillow, and a pillow under your knees if it helps your lower back. Dim the lights so your body reads the room as a place to rest.

A few comforts to have ready

Keep water nearby, since hydration before and after supports the body's natural settling. Eat lightly beforehand, ideally at least an hour ahead, so a full stomach does not keep you from relaxing. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting layers, since body temperature can shift during energy work.

If we meet over Zoom

Test your audio and video ahead of time so we are not troubleshooting at the start. Use headphones or earbuds if you can, especially so you hear my voice clearly once you are lying down. Position your device so I can see you during our conversation and you can still hear me when you rest, and join two to three minutes early so you have a moment to settle.

A note on showing up

You do not need to arrive with clarity, answers, or a set intention. Reiki works with what is present. If you would like, take a few quiet minutes before we connect: step outside, make a cup of tea, close your eyes and breathe. Even a small gesture of transition can open something.

After the session

Come back slowly, drink some water, and give yourself a little buffer before jumping back into your day. Reiki tends to keep working in the day or two that follow, so be gentle with yourself. If your session is in person rather than remote, see how to prepare for your first Reiki session.
