How To Fix Cracked & Dry Heels

Cracked skin is a very common skin condition, especially in the winter months. Our heels, in particular, are subject to losing moisture very quickly, causing them to dry out and split. In the dermatology world, these are often called heel fissures - and while they typically aren’t a reason for serious concern - they may become very deep and painful if left untreated.

If this thought is causing you to shutter, don’t worry, we have the perfect routine for how to fix and even prevent this uncomfortable condition right in the comfort of your own home.

Step 1: Soak your feet

The area around cracked heels is usually thicker than the rest of your skin, and oftentimes splits when pressure is applied. To prevent this splitting during treatment, you’ll first want to soften up the skin.

Draw a warm bath and soak your feet for 15 - 20 minutes. You may want to include a few drops of your favorite essential oil or toss in a handful of medicinal herbs like chamomile, peppermint leaf or rose petals. Use this time as an opportunity to unwind, listen to some music, grab a glassof wine… whatever it is that brings you a few moments of bliss.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Apply an exfoliating treatment - such as our all-natural coffee scrub - and massage the affected area, sloughing away tough dead skin cells. Make sure to use gentle circular motions, and avoid using any products with harsh chemicals.

Now, if you have extremely cracked feet or heels, you may want to invest in a more rigorous exfoliating mechanism such as a PedEgg, pumice stone, or even a foot peel mask.

Step 3: Dry and treat

Next, you’ll want to dry the feet thoroughly with a clean towel and apply a thick layer of our Heel & Foot Balm. Cover with socks and allow the product to get to work.

Our rejuvenating Heel & Foot Balm is formulated with the highest quality ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, vitamin E, and reinvigorating lavender, peppermint, and tea tree essential oils. We’ve also included pillar ingredients raw honey, beeswax, and Propolis to give feet everything they need to repair and regenerate dry, rough skin.

Honey’s powerful antimicrobial and antibacterial properties have been shown to heal and cleanse wounds while simultaneously moisturizing the skin, making it a beneficial ingredient for accelerating healing time and preventing the risk of infection from open wounds. Beeswax helps by soothing the cracked skin, locking in moisture, and protecting the skin from further injury. Propolis, high in skin-loving vitamins, amino acids, and antioxidants, helps to protect against bacteria while nourishing the skin.

You’ll want to repeat steps 1 and 2 twice per week to help get your cracked feet and heels back to a healthy condition. Step 3, however, can be done nightly as a moisturizing treatment. Once you notice an improvement in your heel health, you can reduce this entire routine to a 2 to 3 times per month treatment.

Don’t go through another winter with painful, dry skin. Give this routine a try and let us know how it works!
