Honey hair hacks
Calling all natural skincare lovers… we have some sweet news! Did you know that there are a plethora of benefits of using honey on your hair? That’s right. For centuries, cultures around the globe have utilized honey’s rich vitamins, minerals, proteins, and antioxidant properties as a natural remedy to various ailments from healing wounds, soothing sore throats, improving skin conditions, and boosting hair health.
Why should I use honey on my hair?
You already love honey for it’s sweet, comforting flavor. But this inexpensive, natural ingredient can also be used to transform dull, dry, damaged hair. Honey has been shown to reduce frizz, restore shine, moisturize dry hair and scalp, and improve the condition of natural hair.
While we believe honey is a wonderful addition to any hair care routine, we do not recommend putting straight honey onto your strands. It’s sticky texture makes it very difficult to wash out, always mix it with other ingredients. Check out our DIY mask idea below!
Honey promotes hair growth
Honey is a powerful wound healing treatment because of its ability to promote cell growth and provide antioxidants to the scalp. By removing impurities from the scalp and minimizing hair follicle clogging, honey can stimulate hair growth.
Honey softens and conditions hair
Honey is a natural softener and can help prevent your hair from drying out. As a humectant, it helps attract moisture to the hair and locks it in to maintain strong, conditioned follicles.
Honey reduces hair damage
Honey contains hair-loving protein that can be beneficial to restoring damaged locks. It’s full of antioxidants and nutrients to feed hair follicles and promote healthy growth. Honey is also an emollient, meaning it seals in moisture and reduces future damage.
Honey can soothe scalp conditions
Glucose oxidase, an enzyme found in honey, can help form hydrogen peroxide. This in combination with honey’s natural antibacterial qualities can fight scalp conditions and infections such as dandruff, eczema, acne, etc.
How can I craft a honey hair mask?
In addition to all of its medicinal benefits, honey works well as a binding agent, making it a perfect base for a multi-ingredient hair mask. There are many recipes you can use to make a honey mask, but this one is a great foundation that can help dry, damaged hair. You can add or remove ingredients to cater to your specific hair goals. For best results, be sure to use raw, organic honey.
